5 Companies Compete for Rights to Miami’s Coconut Grove Waterfront Site

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on July 4, 2012

Miami is weighing five bids for the rights to run a marina and restaurant on the Coconut Grove waterfront. Currently housing Scotty’s Landing and Key Grove Marina and dry storage area, the winning bid will enjoy a 40-year lease and a prime spot on Miami’s Biscayne Bay. The city is also soliciting bids for the nearby Chart House restaurant. The Chart House has only received one bid, from Texas-based Landry’s, whose bid contained provisions to renovate the boardwalk and walkway along the seawall.

City officials want all existing facilities to receive an upgrade while maintaining the traditional charm of the Coconut Grove area. At present, trekking to Scotty’s requires cutting through a boatyard and the restaurant has a very limited menu.

Voters will have the final say as any development must be approved by public referendum.
