Miami Slips Past Chicago to Land #2 Spot in High-Rise Construction

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on July 26, 2012

Chicago is no longer the Second City, at least, in high-rise construction. Miami has become the number two city, second only to New York in high-rise construction projects.

As the Miami real estate market rebounds faster than any other in the nation, you can see a new skyline emerging in the pristine, luxury-living Florida coast gem. In the last ten years, in fact, Miami has boasted 145 building projects of 20-plus stories, and 45 more condominium towers are planned in the next two to three years (five are already under construction).

Although Miami isn’t among the top five markets for the tallest buildings, that could change with the completion of One Bayfront Plaza with its 80 floors and impressive 1,010 feet. Construction on that project isn’t due to finish until 2018.
