South Florida #2 in Nation for Vacant Foreclosures

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on June 27, 2013

House in ForeclosureSouth Florida runs second only to Chicago in the number of vacant homes in foreclosure. A report released by RealtyTrac shows that the area of Miami-Fort Lauderdale, which includes Palm Beach and Miami-Dade Counties have 13,901 vacant foreclosures.

Nine of the top twenty metropolitan areas with vacant foreclosures are in Florida. Daren Blomquist, Vice President of RealtyTrac, believes that Florida’s lengthy foreclosure timeline may be to blame, but in recent months new laws took effect that should speed up the process and lower the number of homes sitting vacant just waiting to be relisted and sold.
