With Quick Sales, Sellers Scramble to Find Homes

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on September 5, 2013

Three facesHome sellers usually love when their home sells quickly, and they are finally able to move on and find their own new home. But in a market where housing inventory is just starting to rebound, sellers are being caught off guard when it comes to finding their next home.

Once a sale contract for a home is signed, a seller will typically have 45 to 60 days to move. Buyers have been searching for months, and many sellers have no idea on how frustrating the market has been for buyers. One real estate agent advises sellers to start looking for their new home as soon as the sale contract is signed, or they could risk homelessness. A home can now list and sell in under a month in some areas.

Other agents recommend that the seller have a plan B in place in case they cannot find their next home immediately, whether that plan is renting for the short-term or staying with family.
