Miami Worldcenter Mall in search of Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s as Anchors

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on October 8, 2013

CompassWhat do the investors of the Miami WorldCenter want for their new 750,000 square-feet of mall space? A couple of high-visibility anchor stores in the form of Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s.

If Macy’s agrees to move in, it could devastate the Flagler Street shopping district as Macy’s is the only major anchor store there. Bloomingdale’s would be a new presence in the downtown Miami retail market so there’d be no competition with another location.

The WorldCenter location is highly desirable real estate because of it is adjacent to the highway and within a few blocks of Biscayne Boulevard, the Metrorail and the Metromover. Also surrounding it are the locations of American Airlines Arena, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, and the art and science museum. To the  southwestern edge the proposed All Aboard Florida project will be constructed, which is building a passenger train connecting Miami to Orlando. That project also includes hotels, residences, retail and offices.
