AG’s Office Seeks Timeshare Crackdown

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on November 7, 2011

The Florida Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and Republican lawmakers, have sponsored new legislation, The Timeshare Resale Accountability Act, in an effort to curtail timeshare resale fraud.

Bondi states that timeshare resale fraud has been the number one consumer complaint to her office during the last two years. Since 2009, more than 19,000 complaints have been lodged regarding timeshare fraud.

The most common fraud is a company that promises to sell an owner’s unit for a substantial fee to the owner and then never completing the sale.
