Freddie Mac Tried to Boost South Florida Home Sales

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on November 24, 2011

The Federal Home Loan Mortgage Company, otherwise known as Freddie Mac recently held two events in South Florida to try to boost home sales. Three hundred real estate agents attended two events in an effort to glean tips on selling the area’s more than 40,000 lender-owned homes and soon-to-be-foreclosed properties.

Freddie Mac wants to expedite sales of properties it now owns due to foreclosures through short sales. At the rate it has been selling these properties, it will take 15 years to clear the inventory. Short sales turn out to be the best bet sometimes for both lenders and homeowners. Lenders are happy to clear the property from their books, and homeowners are frequently protected for deficiency judgments in the terms of the sale.
