‘Green’ the New Standard in Construction

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on December 8, 2011

Leadership in Energy and Environment Design, or LEED, green-building certification is the new gold standard in construction for South Florida. Residents want to see the building owners care about the environment and conserving energy, which will ultimately save the residents money in heating and cooling costs, and are making purchasing decisions based on whether or not the building has the ‘green’ designation.

Schools, community centers retail stores, new office building and condominium high rises are sporting new or retrofitted designs. Much of the work is due to Miami’s 21 zoning revamping which requires a LEED silver certification for buildings.
