Sands Eyes Broward

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on December 16, 2011

Sands Casino Resort is still looking at downtown Miami as a possible new location for a casino, but it’s also eyeing a Broward County location. The group is searching for 40-acre sites near airports and major highways, in order to attract major conventions to a possible 500,000 square foot convention space.

The Sands lobbyist, Nick Iarossi, isn’t concerned about the opposition from the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Attractions Association, citing the casino industry always face opposition due to other existing business interests. Casinos also bring thousands of jobs to any area they open in, which may sway lawmakers into making the needed changes to Florida’s casino regulations.
