Miami Beach Says ‘No’ to Casinos

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on January 3, 2012

Miami Beach commissioners put a nail in the coffin of any developer wanting to build hotels with casinos. They unanimously voted down any proposed expansion of casino gambling and demanded the Florida legislation not approve any bill that would allow construction of casinos in South Florida.

The move could scare away millions in revenue for years to come, including the expansion of the Miami Beach Convention Center which Las Vegas developer Steve Wynn would have funded in exchange for casino rights on the site.

The vote has no impact on the Downtown Miami area and the proposed casino at the Miami Herald site.
