Private Equity Firms Looking to Rental Market

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on January 20, 2012

With the surge of interest and profitability in the rental market, private equity firms seeking to capitalize on a surer way to make money in the real estate game have taken note.

Waypoint Real Estate Group, backed by the California firm, GI Partners has been buying up foreclosed homes and turning them into rental properties. With the number of foreclosed properties in South Florida expected to go higher as the shadow inventory of yet-to-be-foreclosed-upon homes comes to market, Waypoint is thinking of expanding its business.

The co-founder of Waypoint, Colin Weil, said the company buys approximately six homes every day, and its only real competition is from the small single, and sometimes duo, investor.
