The shopping center located at Northwest 79th Street and 2th Avenue will have to wait a bit longer for much needed renovations. The Miami-Dade Commission was all set to fund the improvements, but pulled out as a result of a news article in the Miami New Times reporting that one of the mall owners is married to a man with a criminal record.

The husband and former developer, Yoram Izhak, was previously named on corporate records for the strip mall. According to court records, Izhak paid penalties and served probation for federal convictions on tax evasion and attempting to board an aircraft with a loaded firearm. When the Commission discovered to strip mall’s connection to Izhak, it severed its $3 million interest in the strip mall improvements
