February Home Prices Experience Smallest Decline in Over a Year

by Isaac Benmergui, Esq on April 16, 2012

CoreLogic reported the February Home Price Index showed that nationally home prices dipped by only 0.8 percent in Feburary, the smallest decline in 17 months. If numbers for distressed homes and short sales were eliminated from the data, prices actually rose by 0.7 percent.

Mark Fleming, CoreLogic’s chief economist, stresses that when the pace at which home prices falls begin to level off, markets are starting to turn around and people are starting to buy again. If only factoring the distressed home sales, prices for those properties also rose by 1 percent.
